Lancre Morris Men
The Lancre Morris side came about as a spin-off from Otterbourne, a small group of like-minded people, wishing to preserve the folk music and dance traditions of our English Heritage. The name was quite accidental and came about from good observation by the more alert members, who were all Pratchett fans.
Once we realized the significance of having a student member called Cooper, who eventually became an electrician; a member called Baker, who was an accountant and another member called Stoker, who was a carpenter, we gradually got used to the name. If you still don't know what the significance is, read "Lords and Ladies" by Terry and all will become clear.
Our Aims
The aim of the group is to preserve the local traditions of English folk. We also promote our cause at any opportunity. This is done by simply appearing at public events, private engagements, the odd TV appearance and various clubs or societies who have shown an interest and asked us along.
Of course we get paid for appearing, and after deducting minimum expenses for wear and tear on equipment, instrument maintainance and shoe allowance, the rest is banked and at the end of the year is sent off to various charities. Our aim is to educate people about a heritage which is rapidly vanishing and if we can help other causes along the way, everyone benefits
